Reno-F (Renovation)
A perfect getaway house in Zushi
Zushi, Kanagawa, Japan
- Type: Residence
- Total floor area: 248.79 sq. meter
- Design: Renovation and Interior
- Structure: RC
A full renovation project for a residence where only the structure was preserved. The client living in Tokyo, purchased a villa as a second house. The request was for renovating the house for comfort and convenience throughout the seasons, because the specifications were outdated making the rooms difficult to live in. The design plan consisted of dramatically changing the patterns of movement in the house by creating openings, and at the same time creating boundaries within the space by using different finishing materials. This enabled changing the intensity of light within the house. Using materials and colors that project warmth, the size of the window opening to the garden were kept the same as the original structure, creating an impression of continuity in the design. The first floor was designed for the adults to welcome guests. The second floor was designed with a playroom for the grandchildren, and a music room for the client. This house located in Zushi was designed as a perfect getaway from the busy lifestyle of the city.
