Edotoku

A modern and comfortable atmosphere of a traditional restaurant

Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan

CUBO design architect

  • Type: Restaurant
  • Total floor area: 120.0 sq. meter

A project for renovating a long-established restaurant in the Kannai, Yokohama area. Edotoku founded in the Meiji Era (1887) is a renowned restaurant serving eel as their main dish. The request was for a design concept that would fit the modern era, but at the same time maintain the stable quality of service and hospitality, that they have always provided. The owner wanted to use traditional materials of high quality and craftsmanship to create a calm atmosphere that would fit with the area of Bashamichi.
The new restaurant has private rooms, semi-private rooms, and open seating, totaling a number of 32 seats. The “open” and “closed” seating can be arranged in a way so that the “open” area can be made in to a private dining space. The seating design also enables the restaurant to provide the perfect service. The use of a variety of solid materials and subtle lighting make the space modern and at the same time comfortable in enjoying a delicious meal.
