Interior design of a meeting space. We wanted to create a pleasant sense of tension by creating a space with only the airiness emitted by the materials and by simplifying the details to the utmost limit. To create a design in a combination of Western and Japanese styles, we used a natural stone table top, which is produced in Italy but has a stone texture like sumi-e, as a motif of Japanese style. The stones used for the table legs are reused from the crusts of blocks that would otherwise be discarded when quarried and milled into product. The mass of the material naturally gives people a sense of presence and massiveness. The theme of this project is “stone”. The walls are made of Japanese plaster, and by raising a portion of the wall and illuminating it with light, we created a wall surface that looks like an abstract painting as a motif. To avoid the feeling of a low ceiling, all the corners are rounded to create a soft, embracing expression like a “kamakura” (a type of traditional snow dome in snowy of Japan), creating a place where people can hold comfortable meetings for a long time despite the small space.
